A relevant NQF level 6 qualification in local government finance, management accounting, or financial accounting. One (1) to two (2) years’ experience in financial accounting. Knowledge and understanding of financial legislation, policies, practices, and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of financial prescripts such as DORA and PFMA. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems. Knowledge of equal opportunities and affirmative action guidelines and laws. Knowledge of learning and teaching procedures and techniques. Departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of governmental financial systems. Planning and organizing skills. Teamwork and good computer literacy. Problem solving and analysis. People and Diversity Management. Client orientation and customer focus. Good communication skills (both verbal and written). Accountability and ethical conduct.
Duties
Render BAS maintenance on the financial system. Update records on the system, which include creating, deleting, and amending BAS segment codes; updating and amending SCOA structures; creating, deleting, and amending BAS printer paths; maintaining user codes and access levels; assisting with monthly and yearly closure of the Basic Accounting System (BAS); maintaining workflow of regions and Head Office; maintaining budget profiles and access; solving user-related queries and system errors; requesting reports by Directorates, Regions, auditors, and Managers; monitoring and clearing outstanding transactions on BAS; and updating the translation tables on PERSAL. Ensure that employees receive relevant BAS financial training and schedule relevant courses with SITA. Attend to audit-related inquiries. Gather and submit information requested by auditors within the required time. Provide inputs on BAS policy amendments. Ensure the implementation of policies and procedures.
